“Here’s a little Maker Faire preview – “This workshop is a great introduction to microcontroller electronics. In this workshop, you will learn to solder and a little bit about microcontrollers when you build a MiniPOV kit. This kit is a simple “persistance of vision” toy, similar in theory to the “fanatzien clocks” you’ve probably seen. When waved through the air, 8 red LEDs spell out a message! The kit comes preprogrammed with the messave “I *heart* Make!” but we will also show you how you can customize the message at home with only a PC and some free software. No soldering or electronics experience necessary.”Link.

Rube Goldberg – Incredible Machines (9 minute video)

Posted in Crazy Shit by Khaos on the April 8, 2006

Watch these crazy Rube Goldberg type machines. Besides those badass Nissan commercials in the early 90’s, by favorite one is in the cartoon series Family Guy, Peter Griffin uses a Rube Goldberg machine (one almost exactly like the breakfast machine in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure), that comically shoots Peter with a gun rather than make breakfast.

and the music is annoying as hell….

Mac EVDO card in May

Posted in Hardware by Khaos on the April 8, 2006
macbook pro evdo card due from novatel in may
I happened by Om Malik’s blog today and saw, as CTIA winds down, he’s caught wind of an EVDO card from Novatel Wireless that’s due in May. The best news is, it’s going to be an Express card, and it’ll work in the MacBook Pro, no Windows partition needed. So what? Well I guess C.K. can finally get back to playing World of Warcraft in Central Park (and freaking out the squares). If you just can’t wait until next month, when they are rumored to appear, you can keep an eye on this MacBook Pro page on EVDOinfo.com. Wireless is great, especially if it’s everywhere. There is a USB EVDO device from Novatel that’ll be out “later this year.”

Chax – features

Posted in Software by Khaos on the April 8, 2006

Chax: Chax has recently added support for tabbed chats! Hell yes! I wish Apple would just incorporate these features into iChat by default, but until then this is the next best thing.
